A lot of talk about the Law of Attraction these days. In case you have NOT seen the movie the secret, make it a point to do so. It’s based upon the teachings of Ester Hicks, a channeler of a group of entities called Abraham. (listen to these mp3’s of one session) Ester herself got her lead into the world of channeling from Jane Roberts who was a channel for the entity named Seth. By the way, if you have NOT read the Seth books, they are amazing teachings on the fundamentals of spiritual world. Seth was also the original inspiration for Shakti Gawain who authored a successful book called “creative visualization”.
It was contact with that book that really shifted my paradigm many years ago. Using affirmations and visualizations I learned to affect the things that appeared in my reality. It was a turning point for me, to realize that the inner self-talk affects the outer reality.
It’s a fashionable subject these days, and one that the world needs to hear. I think part of the acceptance of the Law of Attraction en-masse stems from the simplicity of how it’s presented. Wow! I can simply THINK my way to becoming RICH and LOVED by the man/woman of my dreams? Hmm…
It’s true. You can. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali has a sutra describing the results of living life of perfect integrity: that what you say becomes true. However, the part many of the modern teachers do not mention is: you have to have the discipline to practice doing what you say FIRST.
That means keeping your promises. To YOURSELF.
I think of it like buying something expensive. I need money. The same thing: if I want to manifest big changes in my life I must pay for it with energetic cash. The way we build it is by not dispersing our life-force on unfulfilled commitments.
1. start by knowing where you’re going or what you want. Clearly. How else are you gonna get there? Write it down. See it. Feel it.
2. declare what you’re going to do to get that thing. Napoleon Hill lists this as a step in “think and grow rich”, which is on the consistently on the top 2 books of a huge proportion of the world’s millionaires for several decades. Napoleon Hill died broke incidentally but that shouldn’t invalidate his methods. After all he got them by studying the rich and powerful of his day.
3. Do that discipline every day without fail for the time period specified. The harder it is for you, the more energetic cash you generate. You’ll notice changes in your voice, direction, and very likely you’ll have attracted to you what it is you want.
There may come a circumstance in which you made a poor contract with the universe to do something to attract something only to find that it is dangerous or not correct for you in some way. This happened to me. I almost got killed in the process. I was doing my discipline, and getting what I wanted, but it wasn’t ethical. The more I stuck to it, the more my higher self held my foot to the fire. Standing in front of God and myself I backed out of my promise and was better for it as a result.
I mention this because, it doesn’t matter what you want, you can have it. There is no morality associated with the energy of desire. Desire in yoga terms is rajas which inevitably leads to suffering and darkness, Tamas. Then comes along tantra which flips that around a bit… but more on that for another post.

Well, how do you know what you should promise the universe when all the secret teachers say you don’t have to know the step at all? The only thing you need to know is what you want, isn’t it?
