Goal of yoga

November 8th, 2007 · No Comments

Yoga is a goal and a practice. Maybe our practice takes us to the goal, maybe it doesn’t. Like I’ve written on before, the more we immerse ourselves in altered states consciously; the greater the level of positive detachment, and the higher our creativity.

However, Yoga is a high level practice aimed at Self-realization and the transcending of your karma. It’s not just an ordinary pursuit, it’s the highest endeavor of a human life. It’s the way of true freedom, and not just a way of achieving simple life goals. To really  practice yoga, one must engage in yoga for the sake of your spirit’s freedom, not just for personal or social well being.

Most people understand yoga as a way of achieving physical and perhaps psychological well-being but to get to the real core, your practice requires a different intention.

Tomorrow I will blog about sankhya philosophy’s roots of yoga and why it’s important to understand
