Why bother with discipline?

October 31st, 2007 · No Comments

Mew left me a comment on the last post… asking why should we have to go through all these steps, don’t we just have to know what we want to use the law of attraction?

Yes, if you are in total harmony with yourself consciously, subconsciously, unconsciously; or if you like: body, energy, mind, emotions, and individual spirit: you could manifest anything through the power of your mind and speech instantly. I say “hot mocha” and it appears in my hand.

The reason I advocate trading work or discipline for what you want is this: we need to practice doing what we say so what we say becomes true. Inability to keep our commitments weaken us.

Your subconscious learns each time you declare and not follow through. Let’s say you tell someone you’ll meet them at 10AM but you show up at 10:22. It responds by noting, “oh, so when YOU (conscious mind) says ‘ten ‘o clock’ then you don’t really mean it”. Or, “I’m going to quit drinking!” and then you don’t… your mind and body records this. You YOURSELF do not harness the full power of your being through inauthenticity.  Part of YOU is hanging back thinking… “she/he isn’t serious, she/he always says X but it turns out Y”.

So what, you live a whole lifetime or lifetimes doing this and then you suddenly declare like you have millions of times before “I WANT BLAHBLAHBLAH”. What? Are we supposed to listen or care?

The antidote is simple, do what you say you’re going to do. This may be extremely difficult at first. Start with small things, like a short discipline you do everyday for a period of time. Then get larger and larger commitments till you can really move mountains, and affect the world.

All truly successful and influential people do what they say.

Examples of this are all through the Indian Puranas (mythology). A yogi sits and meditates or does yajna (fire sacrifice), or some kind of pennance for an extended period of time. When the discipline is especially long or arduous the Gods always take notice. They descend from heaven, and offer boons to the yogi in trade for some of the accumulated power. Again and again the stories have examples where the demi-Gods have healthy respect for the human who has discipline. They know full well anybody with a nervous system and true power of intention can sit beside them with divine power.

So yes, KNOW what you want. This will be enough if you are already in harmony with yourself OR you’ll have to focus on it until you get it so everyone, you, and the Gods all know you’re serious. :)
