You’re feeling down? That’s Shiva talkin’

How your mind is like a string telephone, with God on the other end. This technique of meditation will transform sorrow into bliss!
The Shaivaites say that everything we experience is a pulsation of the experiencer. The experiencer is pure consciousness and energy which pulses, like a heartbeat or maybe like hitting one end of a taut piano chord. Or it’s like the way we made telephones when we were kids: two coffee cans and a string between them. Your ego is on the side of the coffee can which is receiving, God is on the other. Sometimes there is a lot of power moving down that string, other times it’s less. Either way, the trick is to follow your mind down the string until you get to the juicy bliss consciousness and energy which is the heart, the battery, the source, the one talking.
Strong emotions of any kind in you has a lot of this shakti or power. Regardless of whether it surfaces on your mind (vaikhari) as HAPPY or SAD it’s initial impulse under it all comes from bliss consciousness (para).
I just got in an argument with someone which provoked some feelings to rise up. Today was good as far as arguments go however. I knew I was having an emotion, and I kind of sat with it and traced it down backwards into my Self. A good meditator can catch the impulse of whatever strong emotion and follow it back down the “telephone” string to realize the original source. Before the emotion becomes a wave, differentiated in gross language like; “I’M HAPPY”, “I’M SAD”, “I’M GOOD”, etc catch the wave before it rises up, while it’s still the ocean of bliss pulsation!
I do identify with emotions but less than I used to, it’s remarkable to notice just how emotions rise and fall, come and go. This technique has helped me a lot before. There was a time I was feeling heartbroken in a major way, to the point where things seemed surreal from moment to moment. Do you know what that is like? When I was good, I would catch that huge surging of emotion before I attached the HEARTBROKEN label to it. Take a deep breath, introvert your mind, and realize your bliss-nature! Bow to the divine within, Namaste! Adrian Cox
