Iyengar Yoga Mysore Style
with Les Smith

Les is in the process of developing a different approach to both Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga. Both disciplines have their strengths and weaknesses, what he hopes to achieve with his new system is to incorporate the strengths of both whilst eradicating the weaknesses.

Its a series which is similar to ashtanga vinyasa which can flow as much as you like the difference being it less ridged than, meaning the series is adapted to your particular needs for example you may have stiff hips or bodily dimensions which make it impossible for you to do Marychasana d for example in the strict ashtanga vinyasa system you would not be able to progress past that point. With Iyengar yoga Mysore style we would build up more body appropriate series which makes allowances for your bodily dimensions and general disposition and works on your weaknesses with our own unique series.

Morning Session 10 AM – 12 PM
2 hour led class: Stopping from time to time giving more attention to a particular posture or point, it will be a chance to ask questions and develop your knowledge as well as learning the basic series.
Afternoon Session 1 – 3 PM

another 2 hour session to do individual sequences with hints, pointers and adjustments from me, to help you through difficult areas and to resolve any questions you may have about the asanas, sequence, and with your own practice in general.

Leslie Smith
is certified Iyengar Teacher and long time ashtanga practitioner. Originally trained in the Iyengar yoga system, and along the way also cultivated a passion for the vinyasa yoga and ashtanga yoga approaches under the guidance of many experienced yoga teachers. He now teaches a multifaceted approach unique to him, blending the art of asana practice with the science of the mechanics of movement. Les finds Iyengar yoga to be a very mature and complete form of asana and pranayama practice that is applicable to all people and all styles of yoga practice. Iyengar yoga is not stressful on the body, and it is extremely useful in treating disease, misalignment and imbalance of the body.
