This basic course will teach correct breathing methods, the principles of vinyasa yoga, surya namaskara, foundation standing and seated postures based on the primary series of Ashtanga yoga. Each week new postures will be introduced with proper alignment principles taught, and postures taught in the previous weeks will be revisited. Students will learn how to connect breath to movement – the basis of a vinyasa yoga practice. Each session will end with a short mindfulness exercise.

With a dedicated daily personal practice in the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa system of yoga, Tonia draws inspiration and teaches from her own experience, and is a keen student of Yoga and its philosophies. She has a sound knowledge of anatomy as it relates to asana, and keeps a keen eye on movement patterns and energy flow in asana practice. Tonia’s classes are fun, energetic, informative and places a strong emphasis on breath and essential alignment principles to prevent injuries.
